This is Popcorns page, she was one of my earlier rescues. She came in pretty rough, one of the worst, rearing up and flipping over and charging and striking at everyone and she could bite and cow kick. REAL big terrified handful, PG 2 yr old that had been out on pasture with no handling ever until they rounded up the herd and dumped the whole herd! I brought home 3 mini's that day, one was an older black mare that was due any day and the other was a little sorrel filly. Those two were placed with my neighbor before I even unloaded them from the trailer. They're still there and doing great, her 4 kids are riding them everywhere.

Popcorn on the other hand I decided right away that she would never be safe enough for small chilren, Most ponies are with time and patience however with the way she reacted to the stress I just didn't want to risk that she'd freak again and hurt anyone going over with them on her back.

I have an older son who is afraid of horses, makes me nuts, when he was younger the horses would just turn their heads to look at him and he was diving through the fence. He's gotten better over the yrs but never 100% trusting, he has never ridden a horse.

He fell in love with Popcorn, He started out saying she was bad and oh boy she's going to be trouble. I stopped and pointed out what her day had been like. Loosing everything she had ever known, her herd, her dam, her pasture, her friends. Yanked and dumped in a mass of roughly 50 mini's. The stress, would be incredible and she had every right to be terrified. I told him that right now was the best time to get to her and make her a good girl. She hadn't made any friends yet and her heart was crushed and in desperate need of anyone to understand.

My son's heart broke, he spent every waking minute with her, he talked to her and scratched and loved on her, brushed and brushed and started ground work in the first week she was here. Within 3 days he took her from the fighting terrified mess and turned her into a loving doll. I fell in love with her, she had done something I thought could never be done, she won my son's heart and she taught him to love and trust the horses.

Within 2 weeks he taught her to walk trot and canter dragging a tire and done all the basic ground work with her to start her under cart. I had him slow down with her because she was bred and under a lot of stress and I really didn't want to see her loose the foal, so we waited for spring..

Ever had anything stollen from you?

If you ever have you know that it's upsetting and unnerving. Nothing can begin to explain how I felt when I found out Popcorn had been stollen from us!

What a sweet lovey girl! The thing I love most about her is the way she curls her lip into a big smile when you scratch her shoulder..
